Johan Österholm vette át egy hétre a Mai Manó Ház Instagram oldalát

2019. február 20. Mai Manó Ház

Ezen a héten az 1983-ban, Malmőben született Johan Österholm vette át a Mai Manó Ház Instagram oldalát. Johan Österholm művészeti gyakorlata szorosan kötődik a holdfázisokhoz: míg a hold növekvőben van, a megfelelő helyszínt kutatja, teliholdkor intenzív terepmunkát folytat, amikor pedig fogyóban van a hold, a mű utómunkálataival van elfoglalva. A svéd fotográfus képeiből most a Mai Manó Házban megrendezett Vissza a jövőbe - A 19. század a a 21. században című kiállításán is megtekinthetsz egy válogatást.

Hi, my name is Johan Österholm, one of the artists currently being exhibited in "Back to the Future: The 19th Century in the 21st Century". This week I'm taking over the instagram account for Mai Manó Ház to show you more about my process and my work with light sensitive emulsion and the elusive light of the night. ”The lunar cycle and the light of the moon influences Johan Österholm’s work. In the reflected light of our celestial neighbor’s disc Österholm sees an essence much different from the direct light of the sun. A negative light - the light of the night - full of alchemical potential. In evermore intricate ways Österholm attempts to harvest this energy. He uses nocturnal illumination, free of artificial light, to activate obsolete objects by exposing them to the glow of the full moon. This system was first used by Österholm to bring new life to glass negatives and positives that were created by his great-grandfather in the early 1900s, which depict the night sky. Next, he collected shards of glass from abandoned greenhouses, coated them in silver gelatin, and transformed them from collectors of sunlight into moon gatherers. In the work Structure for Moon Plates and Moon Shards the shards have been replaced by disused glass plates. The plates were left outside each clear night when the moon was at the height of its luminosity, materialising its elusive light in the process.” • • • 1-2. Detail of Moon Plate. 3.
